Charles P. Ortmeyer specializes in sophisticated business transactions
and entities. He has been practicing law for over 35 years in a variety
of environments. He worked for 20 years in a big firm environment in San
Francisco, the last 14 as a partner. He has served as the general counsel
of a publicly-traded company, and has extensive in-house experience with
several large corporations.
Prior to joining Flicker, Kerin, Kruger & Bissada LLP in 2015, Mr.
Ortmeyer had his own business law practice based in San Ramon, California.
During 2000 through 2002, Mr. Ortmeyer was Senior Vice President and General
Counsel of PeoplePC, Inc., a Nasdaq-listed Internet service provider which
sold bundled computer/ISP service packages to enterprises and consumers
located in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Prior to joining PeoplePC, Mr. Ortmeyer was a business lawyer and Director
at the San Francisco firm, Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk &
Rabkin, a Professional Corporation (now, Arnold & Porter LLP). His
practice emphasized corporate transactions, e-commerce and internet-related
companies, retailing and consumer law, and representation of financial
service businesses, including banks, hedge funds, investment advisers,
and broker-dealers. He joined Howard Rice in 1983.
Prior to joining Howard Rice, Mr. Ortmeyer was a litigator at the San Francisco
firm Lasky, Haas, Cohler & Munter. His practice there emphasized intellectual
property, antitrust, and unfair trade practices.
Mr. Ortmeyer graduated from the University of California School of Law
(Boalt Hall) in 1979, where he was a senior editor on the California Law
Review and a member of Order of the Coif.
During 1979-1981, Mr. Ortmeyer was a law clerk to the Hon. Betty B. Fletcher,
of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Ortmeyer has been active in the California State Bar Business Law Section
and several community organizations in Contra Costa County and the San
Ramon Valley. He has chaired or co-chaired the following Committees of
the State Bar’s Business Law Section:
- Corporations Committee (2010-2011)
- Corporate Law Departments (2007-2008)
- Financial Institutions Committee (1994-1995)
Mr. Ortmeyer is the co-author of Forming and Operating California Limited
Liability Companies (CEB), a leading treatise on limited liability companies
under California’s new Revised Uniform Limited Liability Company
Act. He is also a co-author of Securities Regulation Forms, Clark Boardman
Callaghan, a 4-volume treatise on documentation of securities transactions.
